Wow, I didn’t mean to be gone so long. I guess it’s true that life is what happens when you make other plans. A lot has happened on the treatment front since my last post.
Aubagio has been approved by the FDA. The big plus? Fewer side effects. The not so happy news? The relapse rate is worse than Rebif and some other options out there.
Still, I get it when doctors say this could provide another option for new patients. Those side effects are brutal, and I know of people whose side effects were so bad that they stopped taking the drug. I took Avonex first, and I’d take it at night so that I could sleep through the worst of the side effects. Still, I had to take it on weekends so that I could rest if the side effects were too bad.
It’s an option, and it sounds like a better option than taking no meds at all, so I hope that newer MS patients take advantage of the new drug.
Meanwhile, BG-12 is in stage III trials, the last step before approval to market. Results have been good so far, so we may have yet another option.
Options are good. Options are progress.
