Wow, I have been gone for awhile. This blog is like MS – I can ignore it for a period of time, but then I’m reminded that it’s still here. So, where were we?
Got the ankle foot orthotic (AFO). Learned that there were real reasons that I hated the first AFO – it sucked. When I went to get fitted for my new AFO, I took it with me. The first thing that happened during my fitting was finding out all of the things that were wrong with the first one. So I had a good reason for hating it! Suddenly by complete hatred for getting a new AFO turned into hope that I could have a device that actually helped. I don’t wear it all the time, but it does help. I’m not saying I love it, or even like it, but we’ve reached an understanding.
Important tip: Don’t forget your other foot when you get an AFO on one. I felt unbalanced, even after taking the insole out of my left shoe (the AFO one). After I looked at the AFO, I figured out that the heel lift on my AFO was higher than the insole on my right shoe. I decided to try a Dr. Shoal’s heel pad in my right shoe to see if that would help, and it was exactly what I needed.
